Young People's Peer Group Assistant

Overview of Role: 

*Assist the YP Peer Group Lead in facilitating the group for people aged 14-25yrs who have been bereaved by suicide, using the guidelines of peer working within MiS. 

*To have robust awareness of signposting for YP with a range of issues. 

*To lead the group if the Peer Group Lead is actively engaged. 

*To be able to assist the Peer Group Lead in a potentially highly emotional environment. 

*Be willing to use the de-briefer and supervision with the role. 

*To help maintain the equilibrium of the Peer Group atmosphere. 

Hours Required: 

*3 hours per month – 1st Saturday of every month. 

Location: 

*Mind in Somerset Office in Taunton. 

Training Provided: 

*Attendance at the Taunton Peer Group.

*MiS peer facilitators training. 

*Safeguarding for vulnerable children. 

*SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it.

Personal Attributes Required:

*Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on your own under own initiative. 

*To be pro-active and self-motivated to ask for what you may need. 

*Insight into how your own views, beliefs and experience can affect your relationships and interactions with clients, staff and other volunteers. 

*Commitment to working towards equality and inclusion. 

*Proven experience of working with young people in a group environment.

Focus Group Coordinator

Overview of Role: 

*On a quarterly basis organise and communicate the dates and location(s) for the lived experience Focus Group. 

*Coordinate the dates of the Focus Group meeting with consideration of the dates of the quarterly Suicide Prevention Partnership Board (SuPPa) meetings. 

*Communicate the outputs of the SuPPa meetings to the Focus Group as appropriate. 

*Explore and record the views of the Focus Group in response to these outputs. 

*Represent the views of the Focus Group at the SuPPa meetings. 

*Be willing to use the de-briefer and supervision with the role. 

*Use regular evaluations to ensure the group is meeting the needs of both the participants and the SuPPa Board. 

Hours Required: 

*4-6 hours per quarter. 

Location: 

*Dependant on meeting locations (Focus Group & SuPPa)

Suicide Bereavement Buddy

Overview of Role: 

* Support someone who has been bereaved by suicide by providing a space for the client to talk about their loss. 

* Work to an agreed plan/process for Buddy engagements. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* Supervision discretion.

Location: 

* Home – telephone support. 

Training Provided: 

* Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

* SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it. 

* Mind in Somerset Policies & Procedures. 

* Whole service offering and appropriate sign-posting. 

* What is a Debriefer and how to utilise this. 

* Supervision and self-care. 

Personal Attributes Required: 

* Lived experience of bereavement by suicide. 

* The ability to recognise that the Buddy role is not about your personal bereavement. 

* A willingness to learn about suicide prevention in all its forms. 

* The acknowledgement of safe-guarding, risk assessing, confidentiality and the full acceptance of what the Buddy role is. 

* Must be able to engage with Supervision on a regular basis. 

* The understanding that a client is always under the responsibility of SSBSS, and the Buddy will act in accordance to the policies and procedures of Mind in Somerset. 

* Willingness to use Debriefer. 

* Strict confidentiality.

Data Inputter

Overview of Role: 

* Input data received from different elements of the service. This will include information about people who have lost their lives to suicide. 

* Work to an agreed plan/process with the Operates lead. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* Supervision discretion. 

Location: 

* Taunton Office mostly but can be flexible to area. 

* Home – telephone support.

Training Provided: 

* Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

* SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it.

* Whole service offering and appropriate sign-posting.

Debriefer

Overview of Role: 

* To be available on the phone or by text to just allow a SSBSS worker to talk through if they have had an emotional engagement or are just feeling left with something. 

* Nothing formal needs to be done, just a friendly calm, empathic, caring and listening ear. 

* Have an understanding why the nature of this project would need a provision like this. 

* Full working knowledge of the SSBSS operation. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* On a rota with others covering, 10am-9pm, 365 days a year. 

Location: 

* Home or office. 

Training Provided: 

* Full training of the SSBSS and Mind in Somerset operations. 

* Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

* SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it. 

* Mind in Somerset Policies & Procedures.

Leaflet Distributor

Overview of Role: 

* Have a full understanding of the ethos of our leaflets. 

* Awareness of where they get sent and why. 

* Promote new areas for leaflets. 

* Manage the correct contact person for each location. 

* Help design the new leaflets and the content. 

* Manage ad hoc requests for leaflets. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* 0.5 to 1 day as required. 

Location: 

* Taunton office 

Training Provided: 

* Leaflet distribution and content. 

* Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

* SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it.

Media Volunteer

Overview of Role:

*Check the Somerset Gazette for reports during the week of any suicide reporting and record it in accordance to the editor’s code of practice and the Samaritans media guidelines. 

*Copied the articles to the media file and assess according to their reporting value. Breaches and hi-level concerns will be passed immediately to the Project Manager or one of the leads. 

*Inquests and articles will be linked to clients. 

*National media including newspaper and social media will be looked at in agreed increments. 

*Other local newspapers, online and hard copy will be researched and collated on a data base, once these have been identified, they will be added to a media data base for promotion of the service and awareness of help and support we might offer. 

Hours Required: 

*1 day per fortnight. 

Location: 

*Mind in Somerset office Taunton (working from home may be considered).

Training Provided: 

*SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it.

One to One Bereavement Support Worker - Level 1

Overview of Role: 

*Provide time limited face to face emotional support for people who have been bereaved by suicide, by providing a space for the client to talk about their loss. 

*Be able to assist in helping individuals to explore support networks and access any specialist support that may be required, such as counselling where there may be complicated grief. 

*To provide information and signposting to individuals directly affected by a bereavement by suicide. 

*Be willing to use the de-briefer and supervision with the role 

Hours Required: 

*Flexible - supervision discretion. 

Location: 

*At Mind Offices or Monthly Surgeries in Wells, Minehead, Bridgwater and Yeovil.

Training Provided: 

*Level 1 Bereavement Support.

*Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

*SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it. 

*Mind in Somerset Policies & Procedures. 

*Whole service offering and appropriate sign-posting.

*Desire and willingness to provide one to one support for people bereaved by suicide 

*Personal resilience and self-awareness of own losses to be able to effectively provide emotional support with another’s loss. 

*Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and boundaries. 

*A willingness to learn about suicide bereavement and undertake training to understand key concepts of grief and loss.

*Understanding and willingness to undertake training in safe-guarding and risk assessing. 

*Must be able to engage with Supervision on a regular basis.

One to One Bereavement Support Worker - Level 2

Overview of Role: 

*Provide time limited face to face emotional support for people or families who have been bereaved by suicide, by providing a space for the client to talk about their loss. Including the wider emotions of potential stigma, guilt, suicide notes and means of death. Also to be able to support someone where there may be children involved, increased media or community attention. 

*Be able to assist in helping individuals to explore complicated grief. 

*To have a wide knowledge of other agencies offerings to their circumstances including counselling. 

*Be willing to use the de-briefer and supervision within the role 

Hours Required: 

*Flexible - supervision discretion. 

Location: 

*At Mind Offices or Monthly Surgeries in Wells, Minehead, Bridgwater and Yeovil. 

Training Provided: 

*Level 2 Bereavement Support.

*Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

*SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it. 

*Mind in Somerset Policies & Procedures. 

*Whole service offering and appropriate sign-posting. 

*Supervision and self-care.

Professional Support

Overview of Role: 

* Full working knowledge of the Service Specification “Professional Support” requirements. 

* 4.3d - “ To develop opportunities to support professionals who have been affected by a suicide through their work” 

* Proactive approach / identifying opportunities for improvement or enhancement of this service. 

* Possible Telephone Responder at set times, if required. 

* Active promotion of SSBSS. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* 0.5 to 1 day per week. 

Location: 

* Taunton office. 

Training Provided: 

* Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children.

Promotion and Fundraising

Overview of Role: 

* Work alongside the Social Media Volunteer on media promotion. 

* Be the go-to person to explain about media reporting and how we conduct promotion. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* Flexible – as and when required.

Location: 

* Flexible. 

Training Provided: 

* Media reporting regulations.

* How the Fundraising Team in Mind in Somerset operates. 

Personal Attributes Required: 

* Understanding and empathy that the subject matter is suicide and a life has been lost. 

* Ability to engage with others who may want help and support in the situation. 

* Use of a Debriefer and commitment to attending regular Supervision. 

* Strict confidentiality.

Surgery Peer Group Facilitator

Overview of Role: 

* Be the main facilitator for the people coming to the surgery, using the guidelines of peer working within Mind in Somerset. 

* Be prepared to telephone clients to explain what a peer group offers and where they can find the nearest one to them. 

* Be willing to use the Debriefer and attend supervision within the role. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* 1 day a month – 6 hours a month.

*Telephone time out of surgery hours. 

Location: 

* Area surgery. 

Training Provided: 

* Attendance at the Taunton peer group. 

* Mind in Somerset peer facilitators training. 

* Safeguarding for vulnerable adults and children. 

* SSBSS organisation protocol and where the role fits within it.

* Ability to discern what support a client or professional is looking for and be able to signpost accordingly. 

* Distribution of relevant literature during the Surgery. 

* Work with the Surgery Welcomer as required. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* One 6 hour Surgery per month. 

* One hour per week recording signposting offered. 

Location: 

* Monthly Surgery – Yeovil / Minehead / Bridgwater / Wells 

* Weekly – at home. 

Training Provided: 

* Full training of the SSBSS and Mind in Somerset operations. 

* Mind in Somerset Reception Training. 

* Safeguarding.

Personal Attributes Required: 

* Empathy and diplomacy. 

* Patience and active listening. 

* Self-starter – able to work under own initiative. 

* Strict confidentiality.

Surgery Welcomer

Overview of Role: 

* Be the first person that the client meets on arrival. 

* Understand from the client what has brought them to the Surgery, and explain the purpose of the Surgery to the client. 

* Direct the client to the appropriate area of the Surgery. 

* If the client would like to talk to someone in private, add this to the session list and encourage the client to use the other areas until someone is available. 

* Full working knowledge of the SSBSS operation. 

* Be responsible for refreshments for each area, including clearing up afterwards. 

* Understanding of GDPR. 

Hours Required: 

* One 6 hour Surgery per month. 

Location: 

* Monthly Surgery – Yeovil / Minehead / Bridgwater / Wells 

Training Provided: 

* Full training of the SSBSS and Mind in Somerset operations.
